Hi because Hugo and Grubstreet have never been given oyster grit (as far as i am aware) I have not put them any in yet should I? and how often do you give your birds calcivet and what dose please?

I give calcivet once or twice a week to aviary birds. It says on the bottle 10-20 ml to a litre of water. For normal mantenance I give them anywhere between 10 and 15 ml per litre, but if making a small amount I use a thin syringe to measure out 1ml per 100ml water. I use hamster water bottles as they have the measurements on and are more hygenic :-) I give them a constant supply of oyster shell grit, but if you are afraid of them gorging on it as they've not had it before you could start off by adding a tiny pinch to the feed then when they've had it for a few days give them a permanent feeder full.
