I have recently taken on these two lovely budgies as the owner was no longer able to take care of them! She was told that the lighter one was a girl and put it in with her male Joey! Joey was very stressed about this and regurged food constantly all over the cage, up the walls and furniture and bickered with the younger bird! I have now seperated them and my mother in law has Joey at her house and he is now doing much better and is more settled. I would like to know peoples opinions of the other bird as I think it might be a boy! It is the paler of the two in the photo's!

It looks like you have a cock and a hen there. The hen being the lighter grey wing. However 2 cocks will get on fine just as a cock and hen would. One reason for them bickering is if the cock is older than the hen and the hen has not yet reached breeding age. To the cock she is just a teenager and a wee pain in the butt and of little use to him Another reason (if shes not that young) is if he was the first bird in the cage then he will be terretorial over his home, feed pots and toys whether his new friend is male of female. Introductions need to be taken slowly. Preferably on mutual territory like in another cage where neither live or outside the cage in the room if possible. Its all normal behaviour for budgies to be terratorial about their bedrooms, but I've not known a budgie yet that doesn't come round to the idea of company eventually if given the time and space to do it in If introducing one to anothers cage its very important to move the furniture around. Change food, water, iodine block and even cuttlebone positions, completely remove any favourite toys, mirrors or perches, and just make the cage very basic at first then add toys etc later when they are getting on better
