I have a female budgie that has not been right for a few weeks now. She is all fluffed up, and unfortunately I have no access to an avian vet. She lives in an outside aviary and has been treated for worms and with Ivomec, without effect. Today I noticed that her cere colour has changed to blue. I remember an earlier thread but cannot find this now. What could this be a sign of? Any suggestions?

I have a hen which is healthy but doesn't breed due to some hormonal issues.

Apparently this can also be due to tumours in the reproductive organs, and this may be the case if your hen is looking poorly. But just like some people have trouble having children, then so too do other animals. Has she previously been a breeder, Marleen? If not, she may be just a sterile "No Fun Hen"

I get the picture... she had a couple of chicks earlier this year but has not continued to produce until the breeding season finished. In hindsight I think she started to become unwell then. Sounds like the colour of the cere is hormonal and may be unrelated to her illness. Poor thing. She looks miserable, and the cold, wet weather does not help. I'm leaving her with her friends though, there is enough shelter for her to find a comfy spot and they are quite a social bunch. I trust her mate will look after her. I hope she will make it this winter.

I do hope she has a turn around, Marleen. Maybe the chicks took too much out of her? Maybe boost her diet to give her the chance to get back up to full strength.
