Hi, I've had Brodie for 4 weeks now & generally he seems to be settling in well. However he doesn't play with toys much, he sits by his mirror & communes with it sometimes but not a huge amount. If I hold a toy up to him as a reward he'll nibble it quite enthusiastically but when I put it back he mostly just ignores it. Also he's not a huge singer. Is this all normal? Could he still be unsettled or do you think that's just how he is? Also during bathroom training sometimes he's happy to come out, other times he's nervy, is this normal too? I hope I'm doing everything right & sometimes I think he's made lots of progress, other time not. Yes, I'm a worrying budgie parent!

Everything sounds normal for a month old budgie. Maybe he is one of those who are more enthusiastic during interaction and laid back once alone.

Unfortunately there are no time-lines to follow when training budgies. So much depends on the individual personalities involved, and very often it seems like two steps forward, two steps back. Also even once they are happily settled they will still have days when they are more interactive than others.
The best thing you can do is be as calm and destressed as possible. Brodie will pick up on your anxiety if you are, so calmness is a must, and leave yourself plenty of time for training and getting him back into the cage.

I try to be very calm with him & the last couple of days we've made good progress. Sometimes our training sessions are shorter than I'd like as I can't sit up for long periods but I've had a good few days so have managed more with him, not sure if this has helped or if Brodie's just getting the hang of things. But yesterday & today he's sat on his play gym (having been glaring at it for several days!) & discovered he loves carrot!

Hmm. I just can't get the hang of the uploading photo thing! There are just tiny, blue boxes not pics, can anyone see them? I've tried the IMG code & the direct code but no luck. Does uploading from an iPad make a difference, do I need to do it on a computer? Sorry for being thick!

Can't help with the photo questions, Starrymist, but it seems Brodie is coming on really well, and that is the best news. Someone techno-savvy will have to help with the ipad questions.

I am certainly more savvy with computers and the like than I am with budgies, however, I'm not familiar with Apple ipad, but it you are uploading to something like photo bucket and getting little blue squares on their site then I would suggest you are uploading to them in the wrong format. If you can view the correct image on the photo bucket website but not on this forum, then you may not be copying the correct code from the website. If this is the method you are using. Could you please give the method, image file extension (.png, .jpg, etc) you are using?

Great news for you and Brodie! Don't worry if you take a couple of steps forward then one back as this is perfectly normal too. You are doing GREAT so far so need to worry

Thanks, Old Pecker, I upload them to photo bucket using the iPad photobucket app & they show fine there but when I put them here they don't show. I've tried the IMG code, the IMG thumb, the HTML code & the direct code but no luck! Are there other photo-sharing websites I could try instead? I've never been on a forum before so this is all new to me.

I've just had a look at the image element of your post and at the beginning of your image you have the address 'http://' twice that is stopping the image showing. I think when you copy the address that photo bucket offers you it puts the entire address in for you including the http:// bit. When you select insert image from the menu bar it also puts in http://. Try pasting just the code from photo bucket. Don't select insert image from the icons top right of the editor.
