Hello all, I have 3 budgies I love them so much.
2 female 1 male.
I saw 3 eggs in the cage today, I am very worried I dont want to do something wrong.
Im scared if they are broken , she was sitting on 2 and the other one was a bit far.
Would the other female get jealous and break the eggs?
Do I attach nest box or anything?
Please help I want to care for them being aware of what Im doing.
Thanks in advance, Hoping to form good friendships with other budgie lovers here ! Esra

you can very carefully put the eggs in the nest box and put the box on the site of where the eggs were sitting xxx but the hen may not go into the box....don't worry the eggs can just sit for a few days until the hen sits on them x the 2 hens may share the box but most likely could fight x

How exciting, you could have your very own baby buds on the way, not so sure how relevent my advice is as my eggs were not firtalised and from cockateil, but when any broke I had to remove them and replace with dummy egg (can buy online) and also make sure they gettin calcium and Eatting well as its important for keeping the shell of anymore eggs firm, if too soft it could break comin, if they love cuttlefish then don't need to worry, also if hen starts to not leave eggs to eat food then put some near, my teil didn't eat for a day while nesting and got diarrhea, hope this helps but sure more budgie appropriate advise will follow from other users x

It all depends on whether you want to breed the budgies.
I assume the 3 budgies are in a cage together. Is the cage large enough for babies? If this is the case, you can gently move the eggs to a nest box, but this is not certain (in fact unlikely) to be successful. At any case the other female is likely to leave the eggs alone. If eggs lay unprotected on the cage floor, the mother hen is most likely to ignore them too. Your situation is a bit unusual as you saw her sitting on 2 of the 3 eggs. I still think it is not likely this will result in babies, but it may be worth a try to leave them and see what happens.
If you want babies, I personally think you may be better off starting with a set-up that is most likely to succeed. If the mother leaves the eggs and they turn cold it becomes unlikely that she will return. Remove them, get a suitably sized cage with a nest box, a diet rich in calcium and protein, and start again from the beginning.
Let us know how they get on!!!

Thanks everyone for your quick responses. Ofcourse I would love to see my babies' babies I love them so much. I wash shocked because I had lost all my hope, never see them mating etc. Mother does sit on the eggs, bottom of the cage. Yes I put food around her. I didnt want to take a risk so im not putting the box then. The other female seems to be ok. Is there anything I can do? What do I do when they are born? Would she have more eggs? She looks a bit fat :/ Thanks a lot in advance <3

If she already nesting I think your doin right thing leaving her do it where she is, if you see 1 egg break then start thinkin about seperating other female, but if your hen is wanting to nest then she will protect them, my teil laid an egg in her seeds, weird place to put it, she was on other eggs on floor so I picked the 1 out of seeds up to give it to her an she spread her wings an launched at me, mums don't take no messing they do protect their eggs x

Breeding birds are quite good at looking after themselves. The mother will on occasion come off her eggs to feed, which is quite normal. The male will also feed her and the babies once they are born. I would not put any food around her, as this would not happen in a nest box either. Food can be in the usual food container.
I would give her some breeding food, which can be purchased at a pet shop and is rich in egg / protein. Alternatively you can give them some hard boiled egg, and see whether she likes this. They also crave for green leaved vegetables when they are clucky. You will find more information at the breeding page of this website.
As a last thought: try and give her some privacy, and perhaps cover the cage when it gets dark. I know it's exciting to have your first nest, but she does not have the protection of a nest box and a stressed bird will leave her eggs. As a first mum she is more likely to become stressed at any case. I tend to look in my boxes once a day to ensure all is well in there, which they seem to cope with.
I hope all will continue to go well!!!
