Hi Guys
Columbo is staying in with us at the moment while we decorate our house. About 30 mins ago he woke us up with what sounded like him falling off his perch. I got up and lifted his cover and he was on the floor, when i tried to help him up i noticed one of his feet wasn't gripping and he was twitching??? I got him onto one of his perches and he began twitching his wings and then making noises like clicks. I freaked out and began googling what it could be. When i came back with the laptop he was eating. He then came out and sat on top of his cage. I picked him up and checked him his leg was gripping and he preened for a bit. I did notice he kept fluffing/shake down, you know that thing they do when they preen to get the feathers neat?? He is 5 and had quite a sickly life. He has liver disease which is under control. He has never had anything like this before. Anyone know what it could be???
Thanks

It may have been a fright, or a mini seizure, but I guess you will never know. If it was a seizure, he may have more in the future, possibly more severe ........ sorry.

Hi Hezz,
Thanks for reply. Have you had budgies do this too?? It was really scarey but he was fine and eating within 5 mins. I have read if it was a mini seizure it could indicate a tumour. He is totally fine yesterday and today, but i am keeping a close eye on him. poor columbo.

Hope Columbo was just spooked and that it was not a seizure. Sounds like he gets much love and good care. That's why they make us worry.

Just that your description sounded like he didn't have control - the claws not gripping and the twitching. All you can do you are doing, I think. Unless you were prepared to put him under the stress of multiple vet visits and tests, at this stage I don't know that there is any way you would be able to tell if it were a fit or a fright. Lets hope for a fright and now all is back to normal in Columbo's world.

Thnaks Budgiefriend and Hezz, So far so good. he seems to be fine. Happy and chirpy. You just feel so helpless because they cant tell you whats wrong . All he ets now are veggies and some seed, no treats so he is in better shape than ever. Hope it was just our snores that startled him! haha.

That's a new rule: no snoring near the budgies!

if it was a night fright then i give maxxy and crystal little night lights not to light but just light enough for them to see and they have never had one since so you could give this ago and if it happend again then maybe give the vet a call and see what they think it might be
