On the old forum we established that Puck is a recessive pied ... I'm pretty sure I've seen other recesive pieds that have cheek patches, so was just wondering why Puck doesnt have them? Cheers!

Ohh yeah, the throat spots. I'd not realised they were seperate markings before, but looking now I see what you mean

In general "Recessive Pied" budgies have mostly clear feathers on all areas except the rump and towards the bottom of the belly and some marked feathers on the wings. The lack of color on the body, hence the original body color.

Marianne,aren t your pieds dominant???Maybe with dominants it s a little different than recessive???

One of Marianne's birds is dominant pied and the other is recessive pied
Pied areas are random, especially on recessive pieds. If a pied area covers the place where the throat spot would be the spot won't be visible. If it covers the cheek patch the cheek patch will be white
