The mum of my oldest chicks which are 6weeks old is laying eggs off the perch since I removed her into the nursery cage with the youngsters as I dont want to breed her again so soon after rearing 5 chicks . I just saw that she has another one and was in the corner of the cage rolling it underneath her bless her .. I feel awful now but dont want to exhaust her so what shall I do? should I take the eggs out , will it distress her ?

she should be ok. My Bella had a clutch 4 then while the oldest was still in the box she started to lay another 9 eggs that all survived as I move 3 to another hen! She must be ok and ready to breed again, so make sure she has extra calcium and vitamins and she will be fine. good luck xx

I have noticed that the hens which are allowed for two clutches in a row, very rarely lay eggs on cage floor, once removed from the breeding cage. In comparison, hens removed from breeding cage after just one clutch do so more often. Two clutches in a row are absolutely fine for a budgie hen. Of course diet and supplements are important.
I think your nursery cage is somewhat similar to breeding cage and that maybe the reason as well. Putting her back in the aviary would be fine as the cock will take care of chicks, if required.

If you don't want her to have another lot of chicks then swap the egg for a marble. Do the same for any other eggs she lays and she should eventually stop laying them. Make sure she has calcium though x
