Oh yep definitely!! Thank u so much I'd much rather get something I know someone has tried..and it works! I was thinking of ordering a few bits and pieces anyway and maybe a stress tonic or similar to see if that helps with Melmans poop problem. Oh that did make me laugh poor Bailey having to do laps of the room to get back a few inches from where he started. They are so comical!

Once I had put the gym together, i put it very close to his cage so he could see it, i kept swinging the swing and making encouraging noises. also I put a millet spray in there and one of his toys he likes.. so it was more interesting.. But I would see if the landing platform helps too.. I am sure it gives Bailey confidence of being out, but still attached to his cage as it were
if they all only knew what they were missing!
like kids who dont want to go to bed... love my bed!

Thanks so much for the links Can't believe how cheap the landing platform is!! I just had a wee look at their cage and the dining table is almost at the same height as one of the doors. I think with the landing platform and the play gym not too far away on the dining table to entice her, Marge will eventually give it a go! Not so sure about Melman.. he doesn't play with toys at all but maybe if he sees Marge enjoying herself, he'll want to have a little nosey too lol. If nothing else, it might give him some peace and quiet to eat and relax while the bossy wife is out playing Silly birdies, they just don't realise we go to all this effort to make them happy

Too true! Am sure though, if they see the other one doing it, their interest will be peaked to try.

I also had the gym ladder attached to landing platform and he walked up and down. Now he is fine to just go on the gym

nettles, instead of getting Marge out in a big scary room with lots of things that she thinks might attack her, I use a small room such as a bathroom, make sure there are a few places where she can land, and then use the stick if you need to to bring her out of the cage. Make sure the lid is closed on the toilet. It is so much easier doing your training in an enclosed space rather than trying to deal with mad panic flying around a large room. Small room allows them to exercise, but not get the speed up to do themselves damage if they do spook. It also saves you from following them around the house while they fly away when it comes time to go back in the cage. If you want more information, let me know.

Oh I see your point Hezz, I hadn't thought it through! Our dining room and living room are one big long room with an arch way in between. To a little birdie it's an enormous scary open space. The bathroom wouldn't work though as the cage is quite big and impossible to get up the stairs. Even if I did manage to get it up stairs, there's no way me and the cage would fit in there together lol. I really liked ffiscool's idea about catching her interest with the play gym. I really think after a few hours looking at it, curiosity would get the better of her and she'd come out for a nosey.. especially if the ladder was attached to the landing platform! It would be like an extension to the cage, so possibly less scary? There's no way she'll come out with the stick.. as soon as I move her towards the door at all, she hops straight off. The cage really isn't ideal as its a rat/chinchilla cage and the doors are quite small. I was wondering if it would be worth moving Marge back to the smaller cage for a while. There are a number of reasons for this but I'll post it on a different thread. It's not exactly health related and I've kind of over taken this one with all my taming questions lol. Thanks for all your help and ideas folks

When I did have the gym by Bailey, I was swinging the swing, tapping the top pole... i had his ball with the ball in the tray part and was just pushing it up and down with my finger. I think the first few times he came onto the landing platform, he looked at it but didnt go on... and then i had a little pot of corn and carrots in it.. he put one foot on the edge.. then went in for a split second.. back to the landing platform and that continued. last night though he wasnt interesting in any of it.. wouldnt even move to get carrot. i think sulking as he had been on his own again all day.. so i expect the same tonight. its v unusual for me to be out 3 days in a row..
so we shall see what tomorrow brings.. but if you get the gym anyway and no joy, then its not too much expense.. but i do think in time curiosity def will win

Oh dear.. I wonder if its fear rather than sulking though? I'm by no means an expert lol.. but a while back, I missed one day of stick training with Marge. The next day, I put the stick towards her and she went crazy like she'd never seen it before! I only missed one day! I put it down to fear.. but maybe you're right and she was just sulking too lol.

He was happy in himself... but I do think I was almost being made to work to get him to chat, lol
this morning, I woke up ultra early - yech - so thought might as well come into the office early... Woke him up and by the time I was sat on the sofa to put on shoes etc, he was like ooh hello.. then I said my usual bye see you later and he just looked at me... extra time tomorrow with him methinks...
but I know cats do that, the sulking, so no reason budgies dont

Hahaha I had a very different different response to yours this morning!
I was up early and went over to play with them. The look I got was more like "really? this %#<\* again!" If they could talk I'm pretty sure I would've been given a few profanities lol.

Thanks for all your help and ideas folks Move her into the smaller cage and try the bathroom! And anyway, its your thread, you can take it in any direction you like! Get her into the smaller cage, get her used to the stick and then have her out and about in something like a bathroom, so you have control over her flying time as well. All these budgies need discipline and routine, the same as any other pet, unfortunately most are ruled by their animals ...... which is the reason for why most animals are given up for rehoming ....... no-one bothered to put the boundaries in place in the first place.

Haha thanks Hezz, I didnt want to get told off for rambling off topic I definitely think I'll have more of a chance getting her out of the smaller cage with its big front door and the bathroom would be the perfect sized room to do it in. If she decided to fly round the living room and dining room she'd really get her speed up and end up getting hurt. I'm definitely being ruled by the buds at the minute. If it were any other animal I would have routines in place and i would rule the roost so to speak, but I don't want them to hate me and dread me coming near the cage by pestering them too often
