My new budgie Zazu is feeling nervous so my dad said to buy him a mirror but I read somewhere this means they won't get tame and they will talk to themselves rather than me. Is the true if not is it ok for me to put a mirror in his cage? Thanks!

Bailey has a mirror and does still chat to me and speaks the odd word, my budgie from years back also had a mirror without problem... I think it could be comforting for him....

Mine both love their mirrors and are still very tame. A mirror is a good friend for when you are not around.

My Joey has a mirror. A complete waste of money. He never uses it. It all depends on the character of the budgie I suppose.

Mine have always had mirrors & they've been as tame as can be. My latest budgie Brodie has mirrors & he's already very tame & interacts with me.

Marge sits in front of her mirror and admires herself for ages. Melman just glances suspiciously at the stranger looking back. I agree, it just depends on their wee personalities.

Of the five I have had, one has loved his mirror, two can take or leave it, and two have ignored them completely. Single budgies are much more inclined to love a mirror than one who is of a flock. It doesn't need to be a problem though, as long as you stay on top of whether your budgie is getting obsessed by it or not. If you are feeling that he/she is spending too much time obsessing over the mirror, start swapping it either day about, two-day about, week about, until you break the obsession. If you are about in the house a large amount of the day, and interact with him, it is unlikely he will become over-obsessed with a mirror ....... it is more the left alone for long periods bird, with only a mirror to keep him company, ..... this is the budgie who is likely to become over-obsessed, and over-protective of his mirror.

Charlie who had lived alone for 8 years before I got him was very focused on his mirror, but he still interacted with me especially when I held his mirror and he flew to my hand. He started off being completely taken up with his reflection when sitting on my hand but as I talked to him he spent more time looking at me and chatting which was a great delight.
He did have to have them taken away though to give him the chance to bond with Woody as they definitely interfered with this process. He is now mirror free but I catch him the odd time crooning to a washer or glass in a picture.
