these things take time and you havent had him that long.. he will get used to it. he has done very well given how little time you have had him... I would let him do it in his own time

Thanks for the advice. Would sunflower seeds be ok as a reward because he doesn't seem to like millet...all he does is poo on it

He certainly is letting you know he doesn't care for it. I don't know about sunflower seeds.

Des he know what millet is? Brodie had definitely never seen millet before & didn't know what to do with it. So I dipped my finger in water then seed & held it up to him, he ate all the bits of seeds then I retried with millet, once he had a nibble & discovered what he was meant to do with it he loved it. This process took a while (ie him being ok with me holding my finger up close to him) but it really worked well & I could use millet as a reward.

Mine took a couple of weeks to pluck up the courage to approach millet!

Don't know if budgies can open sunflower seeds, Iv had them in my budgie cage as they have lived with a cockateil who loves them, so 3 budgies have been living with the sunflower seeds and none of them ate any, my new girl sunshine throws them out of her pot before she starts eatting. Sure millet will work with time. Iv never had a bird that disliked it so sure you be ok with that

Don't even try him with sunflower seeds. Too big and too hard.
My question is the same as Starymist - does he know what millet is? Has he had it in his cage before? If not, hang a small sprig up in his cage, wait until you know he is eating it before using it as a reward. Some can be very slow to try new things.

My two hardly touch millet. Marge has more fun pulling the seeds off and dropping them. I reward them with broccoli instead. They just can't he enough of it! But then my two are weirdos

Thanks for the advice guys..Zazu has been able to come out of his cage recently and I managed to tame him before then, but he now knows what it is and can't get enough of it!!
