Ahh - that could be it. So it's OK to spray it with that? Do I need to if I just have the pair? Just want to get it right. Will let you know re: vet - still trying to track an aviary one down. It may be my imagination but didn't smell as much this morning (I fear I am just smelling the seed and am not used to it). Going to check anyway - to be proved silly! :-)

There's always the slight possibility that your sense of smell is very much better than the average persons... Mine is usually poor but my wife's is excellent.
Just a thought... wondered if it might be something to do with this.
Do others comment upon an odour or is just you that detects it?

I must admit they don't - but they could just be being polite! :-)

I certainly would never say DON'T consult a vet, but I wonder if it's just that you've got a particularly acute sense of smell? When I first got Ian & Marshall a few years ago, one of my sisters - who hadn't been near a budgie since I used to breed them aeons ago when we were teenagers - remarked on how she could still remember the budgie 'smell'.
I knew exactly what she meant, and I certainly can get a musty smell off them both myself, if I've got them close to my face ...

He he - thanks! The more I think of it the more I am inclined to agree - they are both so happy and healthy (though I know they hide things well). I am still calling a vet just to put my mind at rest (calling one back later). BTW - I love the fact your budgies are called Ian and Marshall :-)

They love being called Ian & Marshall too! (Well, they haven't objected in six and a half years ...)

Of course they do. Was there any connection with the names or just coincidence?

They're my comedy heroes and have always made me smile since a child - so it seemed perfect

Erica and Ernie look very sweet in your avatar ..... any chance of larger photos to drool over? I am inclined to agree with Learner and Rose in that you are still getting used to them and so are noticing their smell. One of my hens has a slightly different smell to the others because she doesn't have a preening gland. I doubt if anyone else would notice though.

I noticed my 2 budgies smelt when I first got them too, only 7 weeks ago so still fresh in my memory, they have misting showers and love their bird bath so in a couple weeks the smell went, was your bird from a pet shop? think mine was just pet shop smells all in their feathers
