Oh definately not going anywhere close, while trying to give him some water i got nipped a couple of times, and it does hurt unlike the buds. and it's far from tame, it panics when i go close to the cage, it's gonna take a while for him/her to get used to me being around. Btw I need a name, cause so far i've been calling him/her Joe

Well, what's wrong with Joe/Josie for a name? BudgiesBuddy has and breeds lovebirds, he will be able to help you out. And don't start being cheeky, Mr! And the laugh is on me - I just went to check out your age, which you are keeping secret , but you have the same birth date as me!

There was a lovebird in a shop where I've just been on holiday. She was so gorgeous and sat on the man's shoulder or climbed down to destroy the paper he was trying to use to wrap gifts for people. It really made me want one so I want to know more about them too, perhaps for one day in the future The man in that store got a budgie from someone the day before we left. No quarantine there... so I hope it doesn't backfire on him.

I thought love birds needed company of their own kind, hence the love bird name.If they form a connection to the owner I would think that would be the same as a birdy partner but living alone must be a very sad existence for any animal that relies so heavily on company.

I guess it's not so bad if you have the time to devote to them. The one this man had was with him all day, or with another member of his family. The only few times it wasn't sat on his shoulder it was exploring and attracting everyone's attention. But I guess it's the same as budgies. Nothing is quite the same as a member of their own species.

I hope it can find happiness now it has a responsible owner.

Yes, I hope it settles in well and lives a happy life. It's sad when birds have to be rehomed, but at least now this lovebird has a good home.

kikkinu you have re-homed a very beautiful Lovebird. well done Lovebirds are primarily divided in to two types. "Non-Eye-Rings" and "Eye-Rings". Yours is an Eye-Ring. There are further species in these two categories. Yours appears to be a "Black-cheeked Lovebird". There is no 100% way of sexing Lovebirds except DNA test. But generally female Lovebirds have broader shoulders, chest area, head, and larger pelvic bone span than male Lovebirds. The result is about 50% correct by checking this way. Unfortunately, you can't use any of these signs as you need to compare it between two birds.

This is the seed mix for my Lovebirds. They roost inside, so placing something in the cage for that, would be advisable. There are plenty of information in the below thread. Let me know if you need to know anything else. My Lovebirds Breeding
