This is Wendy! Not a name I would have used but she's a rescue. We had beagles for years but my husband didn't want another, well we'd decided not to have another dog after our last hound died but someone used emotional blackmail the girls at the local pet shop that I use. Wendy had been rescued twice and her last owner was an elderly lady who died, the girls said if she went back to the pound or rescue she'd be put to sleep! I really don't understand why she was given up first time, she is a little star really, apart from being a terrier mix and rather 'yappy' (compared to beagles who howl and it's a wonderful sound Wendy is just right for us now in our latter years. We're not sure how old she as and know little about her except that her last owner had her for about 4 years and the vet thinks she was 'middle aged' for a dog I suppose that's about 7 yrs. We've had her over 3 years now so she'll be about 10! Funny little thing but good company and not a pick of bother really

I love rescues, so good upon you. Except for my own, at times, lol!!! I can understand sometimes why Mac was given up on, but his bad traits are far outweighed by his good.

Beagles are not an easy breed we've had 7 in all and only one not a rescue. I blame films sometimes because when a Dog and Cat (was it? may have been Cat & Dog!) came out a lot of people got beagles and they are difficult to train, rather stubborn and independent! ...... but gorgeous. Wendy is part JR, part springer and something else, when she's waiting for hub to take her a walk she bounces round in circles by the door, really cute and funny

That's the JR in her, mine spins, they are mental. I adored my little Beagle Tess, she was lemon and white but she was 2 when i took her on and i was told never to let her off lead. Well after about a year of me trying to train her i decided to give it go on my local Uni campus where i worked. Not a good idea, she was nose to the ground and off like a shot, i finally caught up with her queuing up in the lunch hall of the student's union , thankfully much to everyone's amusement. As you say, selective hearing, stubborn and independent, but she stole my heart , loved her to bits.

Beagles are notorious where foods concerned (even more so than other dogs!) Wendy is small so can't reach any benches or work tops, my youngest daughter has a BIG greyhound and he's naughty with food, she has to hide everything, he's even managed to get into the fridge before! We love them though

There is more, i could write a book on Tess . We had to fit child locks to the kitchen cupboard doors , she worked out how to flick the bottom of the door with her paw, she raided the fridge, unwrapping the ham and cheese and scoffed the lot. One day she broke into the cupboard where i kept her dry bag of food, i came home to a barrel rolling around (her), had to rush her to the vet, she could hardly breath and he had to relieve her of her tummy full of food . She was a star turn, unlike any breed ive ever had before. You certainly have to be one jump ahead . And oh yes, ive had the counter surfing Lurchers, i know what your daughter has to put up with there, but i love those too . On the whole our tiny JRT is very good, she has trained us well and we know our place , and we wouldn't be without one.

LOL I couldn't agree more, our beagle (Tara) was quite good really then she came from a puppy farm was rescued from laboratory experiments and found a home (in London) but they couldn't cope so sent her to a rescue in Berkshire (where we used to live!) Called Serendipity where I rescued her from aged 7 months. Yes I know just what you mean, I could write a book about Tara too and she's just one of 7 we had, but we had her the longest until she was 12 1/2. Wendy has us trained very well too
