just watched the vid that was about what happened before they mated well the cocks were fighting fiercly over the hen :/

wow thats a tiny perch and wobbly. though one thing i must admit i love the nests they're using Yes tree hollows, that's why some breeders prefer to use these nest boxes.

bb if you compare their feet to the size of todays budgies feet you will see why we use thicker perches

I know Barrie, you are right. The size of the show budgies and the changes man made in them, does require a lot of changes in the setup too. I have experienced myself that having proper size of perches increases the number of fertile eggs.
I am just amazed to see how thin and wobbly is the perch in the wild.

Budgies in love. That's so beautiful.
I really like those log nests too.
Barrie is right though. Those big exhibit birds just don't have the acrobatic skills and dexterous feet of the wild birds or the small pet budgies.

I recently changes round plastic perches to square 1 cm wooden perches and got a very positive result. I think 1 cm is good for pet type budgies.

I got a pair which are never mating outside the nest box. They always do it inside! I never saw them mating. Yet, all their eggs are fertile. They got a fairly large box, still I don't really understand how they can mate so efficiently inside there...
