He used to love it. He would come right up to me and eat it. Now he just ignores it. I bought some fresh today just incase the last lot was dodgy. He just ignores it. I even tapped his beak with it, no effect. So all he eats now is seeds. Which he is eating and drinking his water. There's no change health wise that I can tell. He is just the same Joey that I have always had. I'm baffled.

Maybe he's on a diet Pop. It could be he's just bored of it. Now might be the time to try green food again.

I tried him with those only last week. I went through the whole tray of them, replacing each cob daily. Not a touch of them. He is one SOB (seriously obstinate budgie) when it comes to anything but seeds. Thanks for the suggestion though. I think he was sent just to test my patience.

Or something sweet, maybe a bit of apple? Softened carrot? Wonder if the can tell the difference on sweet stuff?

He's probably just gone off it for a bit. They can do this sometimes. It's a bit like us. My OH gets fish n chips every Friday. I used to love it, but I'm sick to death of them now.

OP, I have heard that budgies are good at learning new habits from their friends... I take it you don't mean that one in the mirror? I haven't decided on a new friend yet. Every time I make a decision Joey does something to change my mind. I have been busy making a play gym stand still on a perch, for the top of his cage, pictures will follow. I tested it out for fit yesterday and Joey made a high speed exit from the cage, did a couple of circles of the room and landed on the prototype on top of the cage. At least it did the job, however I hadn't fastened it down which left it free to slide a bit. Joey was totally unfazed by this and just sat there. I wanted the gym back to finish the sanding and stuff so I had to get him off. I put the spare perch in front of him no sooner had I said 'Up-' he was on the perch. As I made the move to put him back in the cage he vacated the perch in my hand, did another circuit of the room and landed back on the gym again. So I tried the perch again, which he duly climbed on. As a difference I stood to the side of the cage away from the door, This time Joey stood on the perch while I lifted him up and transferred him to the doorway, where he duly jumped back in the cage. What I learned from the exercise that He didn't want to get too close to me, and if I stood the correct distance away he would stay on the perch. This in no way has him eating the millet, but it just the sort of thing that has me delaying getting him a friend!!! I would agree Stace if he had millet on a regular basis, but I tried not to give him too much 1) Because I have read about it making him fat. 2) I wanted something I could give him as a reward.

I don't fancy trying millet, the little bits would get stuck in my teeth. I have tried that with carrot, he just looked at me as if I'd flipped. I actually took a bite and gave him what was left. I like the Idea Moogie, but don't fancy trying much of the veg myself. So maybe I can't blame him for not trying it either.

Lol, millet is like sand, not that I rather, but goes everywhere too But like you OP I only give it as a treat
I pretend to eat things in from of Bailey, like raw broccoli. It took a few attempts before he tried. Initially he also got slightly cooked/softened forms as he wasn't great at biting the raw stuff.
I do like peppers but he just stared at me when I ate them but now will eat a little red pepper. It took weeks.
Well done on the gym start and Joey being perched about. Looking forward to seeing your handywork
I have to attempt put up new spotlights today. Should be fun, NOT

Spot light sounds like fun, where do you hang them on the cage? I've just been playing with Joey and the perch inside the cage. I have put one of the half size perches that came with the cage sticking out instead of into the cage. Whilst I had Joey on the perch inside the cage I did a fairly swift, but smooth, move up to the perch that was sticking outside the cage. Got him stepping up onto the perch and back onto the wooden perch. I then put him on the gym with the aid of the wooden perch. He got onto the gym, but wouldn't come off again. He took off and is now sat on top of a cabinet with all the silverware inside. I'll leave him for a while now.

Lol. That woukd have been easier. I think i now need electrician. Managed get old broken bulb out which started whole thing. Then thought i will put new ones up. I didn't bank on how fiddly, so i personally coukdnt Get hands in to the tiny space to get old wires off. Plus whovever first put them up, bodged as screws were going into it seems a flimsy bit of board. Odd bits came away. I got one side in fairly firmly but its only just about being held up. So now a worry Wires very secure but if it dropped, maybe not.
why i didnt just replace bulb and leave it.... i had bought new lights in case couldnt get old bulb out plus they are very worn looking
That's sounding good re Joey. He obv is fine with perch moving. I think it's sounding like he is going to do more and not adverse to new things, like the external perch/gym
I say by this time next week he will be out and about more often!

OP, this sounds good! J is certainly being a lot more adventurous and interactive, and not letting you think you've got him sussed. Great stuff! Re food, sounds like you are doing as much as anyone could to get him to widen his diet. What kind of seed do you give him. If it is Trill does he eat the pellets or chuck them?
