They will be fine, Nettles. Don't worry about it. Get mum to put them into a little carry cage, and the vet to take them out at the other end ........ if you feel more comfortable with an avian vet, go for it. My general vet is very good with birds; I do forget that there are others out there who aren't so good.

It's just that black nails make it harder to see a little vein in my opinion. My bird who is worst has black nails. Lol sorry, I'm new to this whole birdie thing so I didn't realise some budgies actually had black nails!! My two have clear nails and i can see the vein running down them. I just assumed they were all like that.. Doh! I panicked a bit when I read your post as Marge has one darker nail. I thought it was an illness! I know how you feel. I've done much panicking myself. I really felt horrible when Allie's nail bled. I had purchased the powder in case. I should have read the instructions you have to have water to dip the q-tip in before the powder. My system failed because I did not use it properly. I didn't want to recapture her and was lucky she stopped bleeding quickly after.

Hezz, I know they'll probably be fine with the travelling etc but it's catching them that's really worrying me! It's taken months to get Marge finger tame & Melman tame enough that he'll take food from my hand. I'd hate the thought of them being scared of me again I'm know our usual vet would probably do a great job, as always, but I'd never forgive myself if anything happened and an avian vet wasn't on hand to help.

phoebe, oh you poor thing! And poor Allie too If they as much as sneeze I panic, so bleeding would be my worst nightmare! I'm such a worrier, feel sick even thinking about ringing the vets tomorrow lol.

How big is the window in the room? I would find the room with the smallest window and put aluminum foil all over. I got some help because it takes two people and a ladder. I just taped the top part of the foil and put it up vertically from top to bottom with the pieces overlapping so almost no light could get in the room. I prefer the other birds don't see me catching a bird. If you have two in the same cage you have no choice. I waited till Emerald perched on the bars of the cage and softly put this clear box over her and carefully slid the lid over it. She never knew what happened to her. The vet had a turquoise cloth you see in the pic and put it over the transparent box. Then she just picked her up in the cloth, it was easy peasy. She examined her like that and then put her back in to weigh her. As you can see Emerald was not too excited. I didn't really like that she squeaked when the vet almost seemed to pinch her belly. Besides that it went off without a hitch. You might want to get some of these little containers because you can see the bird so you don't worry, or you could ask your pet shop for cardboard boxes they sell birds in.

I looked that picture and for a moment I had to relook as I thought you had him in the food processor! That was so funny! I guess lol is a bit overused but in this case true. The vet has that thing that looks like a strainer to weight them in but then she decided the box I brought was better.

Cant really help re the clipping but I'd definitely advise it's NOT you who does the catching or is involved in anything too horrible if at all possible. When my 1st budgie had an eye infection he needed drops put in daily; my dad caught, mum put in the drops then I fed him millet & said lots of soothing words! He was v tame but it was so important that at least one of us was all lovely & full of treats. He literally never forgave my dad though (mum won him round eventually!), dad only had to walk into the room & Bobby would scream &'fly up to the curtain rail, this went on for weeks! Eventually Bobs tolerated Dad in the room but their relationship was never the same so I'd say pick your torturer well, preferably someone who doesn't mind being hated by a budgie.... And be ready with lots of treats!

phoebe, the room they're in has a huge bay window at one end and patio doors at the other so no chance of covering them! Their cage comes apart into two halves so I'm thinking we could reduce the size and just transport them in their cage. Then the vet can have the fun of catching them And it's only one time they have to be caught so hopefully it'll be less stressful for them!

starrymist, I'll definitely not be doing the catching! If we have to transport them in the travel cage then I'll get my mum round to do the cruel deed. I just thought they'd associate a human with catching them rather than an individual person. I'll take plenty of treats for afterwards like you did with Bobby and i'll hopefully be the hero who rescued them from the nasty vet

What a wonderful array of names you have come up with. It's a good job they didn't have to go to school with any of them. Good luck for Friday. I like the way the vet has come up with the exact price to the penny for the job.

lol!
it is a lot for the price to do the nails, but when I think how much I paid the other week, for the vet to tell me, yes give B the mite treatment I took with me.. talk about money for old rope!
