Poor Pepito, he's not having a great time at the moment! He's now having one of the heaviest moults I've seen him going through. It's hard to believe he has so many feathers on him, there are so many all over his cage and the floor! Great big wing and tail ones too. We've been a bit worried as he's sleeping more during the day, but I read through an excellent post on moulting and it said budgies having a heavy moult can need more rest. He's not a bitey boy usually either but he bit me hard on the chin yesterday for no reason (none that was apparent to me anyway!) Mum has been spraying him at lunchtime, he doesn't like it but hopefully it makes him feel more comfortable. He's eating well and still coming out to play now and then so hopefully he's be back to his usual self soon. Poor wee fella!

Poor little Pepito. I hope he is feeling better very soon. He is much too cute to be sick.

what a shame.... must be horrible for them. Wonder what determines if a heavier moult or not? Weather, light hours etc?

I am always amazed that they can shed sooooo many feathers and still look gorgeous. Poor Pep must be feeling the strain if he bit you. I feel that at these times, the bite is their version of leave me alone/don't push it!

Aww little Pepi bless him! I always remember one of my older relatives saying that when budgies go through a heavy moult they can get cranky and anti social. Probably as you said Ruth that is is due to them needing more rest.
Only tip I can give is to up his protein and calcium for promoting feather growth. So egg for food and calcivet for water.
Give our love to wee Pepito xx

Mum just called me at work to say he is happy as Larry this morning! Hopefully he is over the worst and the moult will just settle down now. You're right Hezz, he does still look gorgeous despite all the feathers he's lost! He's a bit scruffy if anything, but that just makes him look cuter...

He is always gorgeous. They do tend to look grumpy though, I feel, when they have a head full of pinnies.
