That is great news,Starrymist. It is a great boost to ones own confidence isn't it?

Well done starrymist and Brodie Slow and steady wins the race. Hezz has had lots of practice at this now, so we're going to have to really work hard to catch up with her!

Yes, Hezz is the pro! OP are you managing to do this with Joey? It does feel good that he trusts me enough to get even this far, we've certainly got a way to go before I can say I'm holding him never mind taking him out of the cage being held but if I had to I could do it just now, as long as it isn't necessary though we're taking the scenic, slow route to that point! A family friend had budgies who were as wild as anything except they were used to being handled & that actually waited to be caught. One time when i was about 10 i accidentally let one out & he went to the door frame but the friend just reached up to grab him & he waited for it to happen, it was amazing!

I'm having to work on making sure he'll step up on my index finger when it's touching him so that I can move on getting him to step up onto my little finger Hopefully I won't get any holes in my poor pinkie

I can get Joey to step onto my little finger into the loosely curled hand. If I try and close the hand around him he climbs up my fingers and out of the hand. I can only do it from one perch in the cage and so I am unable to use my other hand to contain him. I am working on doing it outside the cage. More difficult because he can fly off. Work in progress as the saying goes. I think Joey is sensing that I am more confident at doing these things. That must be amazing to watch Starrymist.
Ira: Joey doesn't bite, thank goodness.

Well done, Starrymist and Brodie. You are both doing really well. Mango is a work in progress.

Ira, she'll get there, but at the moment is perfecting her dolpin-clicks/henny-quacks. I think this one is destined to be boss once Smudge passes on the mantel.

Hezz, I can't wait to hear about all the drama once Mango is introduced to the others. It will be interesting to see how she and Smudge interact

Hezz, I just wanted to say how having a 10day break from 'hand-practice' has had such a dramatic step backwards for us, having been doing it daily. That was 4weeks ago & was unavoidable & we are getting (slowly) back on track but I was surprised how we went back to step 1 & we've still not reached the point we were at prior to the break, daily is definitely best! We'll get there though but thought it was worth mentioning to any others trying this approach too!

Tiggy is okay to pick up and goes on my finger now. Ocean still goes a bit into kami-khazi mode now and again, but I have only had her a few weeks, and she will go onto a perch now. When she was out of the cage the first couple weeks on the floor it was like trying to herd a sheep back into the pen, now I just sit back and she goes in cage herself.

That's what I have found with my guys as well, starrymist. Even just not being on the ball for a week sends Sparky back to flitting off on me. But I do have to make my own update and say that Mango seems to have all of a sudden gotten the whole step-onto-the-little-finger part. She still tries it on with a few flits side to side, but then onto my finger and not nearly so much struggle any more.

Boo just isn't having any of this malarky. I think that he thinks that getting caught up means he's going to that horrible vet to get stuff stuck down his beak and then get squished in a scary x-ray machine.
