Hi, we collected two ten week old budgies on Sunday. They don't seem to be eating hardly any seed but are really going through their millet. Is it normal for them not to feed or drink much or should I be concerned ? Any advice would be appreciated. Thankyou.

Hi and welcome! Its good that they are eating something and I wouldn't be too worried as they are probably drinking when you are not looking. In the wild drinking makes them vulnerable to predators so once you bring your new birds home to a new environment they may feel a tad insecure to start with. If you haven't done already, you might want to partially cover the cage to give them a bit of privacy so they don't feel like they are being watched. What are their names? Looking forward to hearing more about them!

Hello, welcome to the College of Knowledge. Specialist subject is Budgies, although other pet birds are catered for. I myself are but a student as yet. So I will leave the informed people on here to advise you.

welcome.. it may be that as millet is available all the time, they only want that.. someone on here will advise the best thing, but probably the millet shouldnt be that available, so that they want to eat seeds?
Bailey didnt drink for days, but i ended up spoon feeding him water as he wasnt used to the dispenser I had

Budgies love millet like we love burgers and if eaten a lot can have the same effect. I would remove the millet, they will soon find the seed. Also try giving fruit and veg.

That's a bit like offering a small child a piece of fruit or lollies. Not that millet is like a lolly in food content but I agree with above, reduce the amount of millet available. More than likely they will pick the millet out of the seed mix as well, but don't replenish too quickly and they will move on to the other seeds given time.
