Has anyone got any opinions or experience in having used this for budgies? The reason I ask is that I seen on another forum someone had used it in their budgies drinking fluids to treat a tumour, with successful results. I have not heard of any other stories apart from that one. Although I have read that it is good in humans who have kidney problems. I feel I am getting a bit desperate with poor Lemonades situation but I would rather try something than sit and do nothing

I'm sorry I don't know anything about bicarb but you saying "sit and do nothing" needed a response. You have done SO, SO MUCH for him. You have been a total star. But I can imagine it is very hard not to be able to cure him. How is he doing? How is your fur collar bearing up?

lemonade, I don't know about bicarb, but I do know Tinksmum did a lot of research on food-grade hydrogen peroxide. I am not completely sure on the ins and outs of this but apparently there were people who had had results by giving this to their birds with tumours. It was something I hadn't heard about, or read about when Blue was diagnosed, otherwise I would be more up with what to do. With Blue I was only able to treat the affected organs, mostly liver, so I had him on something resembling a fatty-liver diet. You are already doing these things for Lemonade anyway, I have to totally get behind birdguhl's remarks that you have done so much for the little guy, but also I completely understand how useless you are feeling. I've been there; it isn't a good place to be. Chin up, sweet. You are doing a sterling job. Hugs to you and Lemonade.

Thank you, I am feeling pretty helpless right now, like we are just waiting now on the inevitable and it's horrible I read the bicarbonate thing and thought about it, but also quite scared to try it incase it is more harmful than good. Lemonade himself has deteriorated. His tumour is now visible externally and it looks big. He is sleeping a lot more. He is still eating and drinking and flying. And he tries to move about the carpet but he looks like a wee fish when he is on the floor because he cannot use his leg. He only tweets and chats mainly to Custard now. He seems to have lost his voice, but just wants to snuggle with us and get his head scratched. He won't stay in the cage, he wants out and about so I suppose that's good. It's such a shame and my heart breaks for him. I don't feel ready to lose another budgie

Oh I'm sorry. This does sound sad. But you are giving Lemonade such a good quality of life. He is a very lucky budgie and it sounds as if he is feeling your love. Others might have views on the bicarb I guess. But it sounds as if you are just feeling the pain of not being able to save your loved one.

What a terrible time for you and Lemonade. How strong you are. Just keep giving him the love you are doing. So sorry for you.

Sorry, but I've also not heard of this as a treatment. You're doing as much as you can for Lemonade, so please try not to feel bad on that count.
