It's a year to the day since I made my first visit to the vet with Woody and Berry. On that occasion it was because of the loss of Berry's flight feathers.
As it turned out, that was the first of many, many visits. Since then Berry has been confirmed to have Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease, Woody was diagnosed with a broken leg, fatty liver disease and an unspecified infection requiring weekly antibiotic injections.
Luee and Charlie came my way (separately) for rehoming (2 x 100% serendipity), but Luee has been up there twice with respiratory issues and he has had 2 or 3 courses of Baytril and undergone F10 nebulisation (don't try this with the one with detergent in!).
Woody and Charlie had a spell on Flagil for a protozoal outbreak, and then Charlie got me worried when he started holding his right foot up, and kidney disease was queried (but not confirmed, thank goodness).
Along with the worry, stress and expense of all that, we have had romantic tensions +++ and then there was the challenge of introducing Woody and Charlie, and helping Charlie to break his addiction to mirrors.
Dietary reform and finding a workable accommodation arrangement has been a big part of the challenge too, but I don't yet know how I am ever going to be able to spend a night away from home again.
I have been known to make a film or two before, and this one was made to thank the vets at Edinburgh University Royal Dick Vet School for all their help and to show them that we seem to have to got through it all and come out the other end. I hope you enjoy it too.
Happy Christmas to all budgies and humans!
