Oh, no ..... I am so terribly sorry, Shirls. What a terrible time for you, Christmas season and all you needed was a vet. Did the vet give any indication on what they thought the problem was? Rest in Peace, little Jojo. You were too young to leave this world. Fly high sweetheart.

Thank you all for your kind comments and wishes. I am afraid I didn't ask all the questions I should have asked the vet at the time. He gave me so much hope even tho I felt it was too late for little JoJo. He gave (using that term very loosely of course) me diluted Baytril, syringes and a Critical Care Formula to help me look after JoJo and of course I haven't been able to use any of it. Although things didn't work out I did feel that the vet cared and was of the opinion 'where there's life, there's hope', but nevertheless, he is a business man and got his fees!! The Critical Care Formula is interesting - you dilute it in water (like Guardian Angel - which the vet had never heard of!!) and it is a nutritious supplement for mammals, small birds and reptiles, of all things. It keeps for a long time so may come in useful, although I hope not! Has anyone else heard of this CCF and used it?

Just an afterthought, my other four buddies are absolutely fine, flying about the room as we speak, but I am keeping a close eye on them.

I think that sweetpea might have used the CCF for Thomas?

Shirls, while this is not going to be on your wish-list of things to do, I do think a follow-up phone-call or visit to the vet may be worthy of the time. Maybe he cannot answer any of your questions, but if he can give you some sort of indication of what he thought the problem may have been, at least this gives you somewhere to start, as I am sure you are looking for answers, and ways to make sure this doesn't happen again. I know I would be. Poor little JoJo went downhill so quickly, you must be watching the others like a hawk ..... I can't imagine how you are feeling with them right now. Hugs to you, feeling so, soo sorry for you.

I think that sweetpea might have used the CCF for Thomas? Yes, the vet prescribed CCF for Thomas. I believe it was an interim measure whilst we worked out what was actually wrong with him, being as he was not responding to the antibiotics. I can't say it did any good, but Thomas's problem was his liver so it certainly did no harm. I was also previously prescribed CCF for Atilla when she had poorly times. I think it is meant to be a pick-me-up, most probably along the GA lines.

This is so sad. I really hope the other birds are fine. You did everything you could.

Hey Shirls, Baytril is one of the few meds that keeps for a while in the fridge. I can't remember exactly but I think it will last around 18 months, so don't biff it out just yet.

Oh thanks stace, I was wondering how long it will keep for. Hopefully it won't be needed, but you can never tell. All the other buds are still fine.

I think you are right there sweetpea, CCF is a tonic, much like GA. Vet said it would encourage JoJo to get an appetite.

Yes I think you are right skysmum. JoJo was very much like Oscar, no tail, very strange feet, and such a lovely adorable little character. I do feel that the breeder was getting rid of 'problem' birds. Nevertheless it was a priveledge to share these little buds lives, albeit for such a short time. They were very happy little birds and I loved them both to bits.

Ahhh it does sound like he was but you gave them the best they could have had, in someone else's hands they may not have even got as far as they did. They were lucky little buds and as you say brought joy to you

Nicely put, Skysmum. I completely agree. And Shirls, I think you are right - the breeder doing the dirty on you. This sort of deceit makes my blood boil! I would be looking elsewhere next time; or, if he wants to offload his rejects, he should be paying you!!! Not the other way round.
