Our budgie Charlie has developed severe itching especially around his head and he also keeps scratching the right hand side of his head as well. At the same time he has his scratching, he heaves as well as if he has something stuck in his throat. He is approx 8 years old and still eats well. We are today going to strip the cage and clean and disinfect all the toys as well as the cage and we shall also give him and his friend Winnie and shower to see if that helps. However, any advice would be welcome. Thanking you in advance.

Welcome to forum Do you see anything on the skin or around the beak? One closeup picture would answer many of our questions about the issue.

Hi there, Sorry for the delay in replying. No, I cannot see any anything on his beak or around his face but I will try and take a close up picture if possible but he tends to turn away if I approach him with my camera. BTW. When I click on the photo icon on this thread to post a photo, it asks for a URL address?

When I click on the photo icon on this thread to post a photo, it asks for a URL address? That's because first you have to upload your picture, to a picture hosting website.

A photo and maybe an idea of his diet would help. Sometimes I add drops that are supposed to be good for the plumage and skin in the food. However my vet found the concentrations a bit much in this formula and said not to use it often. The bottle says it can be used daily. My vet said once a month. If it's just dry skin this might help. The vitamin D3 is the one the vet found the concentrations were high.

I have tried to upload a picture of Charlie but without much luck. I am now trying a link to my public folder in Dropbox to see if that works. We are giving him "Bird Tonic" every other day which is supposed to help the plumage and as a "Pick me up" and he seems to be itching less, but we will still keep the tonic going over the next week.
