Hello everyone I've got a little dilema regarding my bonded pair, Stitch and Blue (both around 7 years old I believe). They've been bonded now for years but only in the past year or so have they actually started mating, however this is becoming a bit of a problem. My male, Blue will not stop mouting my female. I witness this multiple times in a day and whilst I can tell it doesn't bother Stitch it has actually rubbed her feathers off near her vent, and the bald spot is steadily growing larger and larger. He also doesn't leave her alone much when he isn't mounting her, he is constantly pestering her and she goes to sit in her coconut to get away from him! I'm considering seperation but I'm worried how this will affect Blue. Any advice on seperation? Thank you

I'm sorry I can't help with this. Hopefully someone with experience in this happening will reply to you soon. One thing for sure though is that the separation will really affect them if they are the only two budgies that you have and they love each other so much. I totally understand your concern though. I would be worried about the female too

I don't think you should separate them. She is likely to lay eggs and will need her man to help her.

Oooo I hope she doesn't start egg-laying at 7 years of age!!! She is too old for that - too much risk to her health! I hope the coconut doesn't resemble anything like a nest?? If I had this happening I would interfere whenever I saw it happening and shoo him away. See if this makes any difference ...... it could take a week or more, but that would be my first line of attack.

If she has been fertilized then she will lay eggs, fingers crossed she doesn't.

I think you will find that its the Coconut that's done it, anything remotely resembling a nest and off they go which is why she is retreating to the coconut, i would remove it and hopefully they will go off the boil. If you don't want baby's and she lays them on the floor just discard them.

Thank you for the replies thus far for this I don't believe that Stitch is retaining eggs or even fertile enough to lay, her cere has never gone fully brown no matter what we tried, so I'm not concerend about her producing eggs at all, I'm more worried about her poor bald vent! I will remove the coconut and see how that goes, hoping he starts to leave her alone a bit more Thank you for the help and I will keep you updated

And give him the flick, at the same time, I would. Hopefully they will both lose interest.

Well I removed the coconut today and Stitch (female) is acting friendlier to me already (she's always been a bit snappy) and Blue hasn't humped her yet, so fingers crossed that's the end of that ordeal! On a very unrelated note, my lone budgie Edmund passed away this afternoon very suddenly, only this morning he was singing and playing

I once separated Noah from Allie. He was jumping back and forth in his cage all day long. I should have taken out his perch to trim his nails. He made his little feet bleed. Just a tip if you do make sure he doesn't have a sandy perch.

Glad things are settling down, this maybe all that's needed for now. I am so sorry about Edmund , its such a shock when they go suddenly like that. RIP Edmund
