Hi,
Yesterday I found that two of my chicks died (of different pairs). Chick 1 (35 days old) Chick 2 (13 days old)
I was really depressed all the day and still can not figure out why this happened. I take care of them like my kids cause I love them.
The 35 days old chick was out of nest box, there was no food in his crop when dead, two other chicks are being fed very well by parents. I don't think he starved due to not getting food, but not sure.
What would have been the possible cause? I had similar issues before too, mostly 50% of chicks die between ages of 30 - 50 days.
I think I am doing something worng which I really don't know.
Thanks,

Tariq you may have a lethal gene bred into your birds..............................it may also be bacteria which is a big killer of chicks..................or your birds are starving to death due to the weaning process, are you cage breeding?

The problem with colony breeding Tariq is the chicks that leave the nest box cannot reach dad to shout for food and pester him into feeding them...................i have designed a system for a lady who was having your problems, it is a simple wired framework that sits over the nest box, fastens to the aviary and has a solid base for the chicks to run around on , a wire door prevents them moving away from the breeding area..............after the chicks are fledged at 42 days of age the frame can be removed and used elsewhere

Great idea Barrie. I know you would not have the picture of that, but just incase there is any possibility it will be a great help to see how it was designed.
