I found Paddy excessively rubbing his eye around 45 mins ago and looked like he had something in it bothering him. We have rinsed it with water twice but he can't open it properly and it looks very painful. He keeps rubbing and scratching it and I'm worried he will make it worse. Is there anything else we can to to maybe soothe it? What could it be?

Ohh bless him that looks sore, black tea, or you can use golden eye ointment which you can get at the chemist.

Just a normal tea bag? What do I do with it? Boiling water and let it cool and dab with a cotton bud? I'm really worried about him not with his fast breathing

Oh dear - sorry to hear this - it sounds distressing for you and him. I can't add anything useful really. Could he have damaged his eye himself, though? I have thought about how close they get to their eyes with their feet when doing the scratching thing. Poor Paddy.

yes make it with boiling water and let it cool, dip some kitchen roll or tissue in and drip it on his eye or if you have a dropper, be careful using cotton wool because of the fibres. His breathing may just be anxiety. Naturally this is just a short term soother, if he no better tom i think its a trip to the vet.

Ok thank you, I have a tea cooling just now. I don't know if it's maybe a little feather got in. Will certainly get to the vet if it's not better tomorrow

Your welcome, hope he is ok. It could be something in it or he could have scratched it himself.

Remember chamomile tea is good for this too ...... and if you can get him to drink some as well, may help calm him down. I guess you are all in bed now, but I am wondering how Paddy's eye is now???

Poor little Paddy. Hope his eye is better by morning. If not, the vet will know what to do. Good luck.

I dripped black tea on his eye before bed. He made a crying noise I had a rotten sleep but that allowed me to get up and check on him a few times and this morning his eye is open but very big and wide. Best description would be his eye looks surprised. He scratched it a few times. I put him back to bed as my husband is off work today so they are all getting a lie in. I will leave instructions about the camomile tea just incase but it does look much better

oh bless him.... hate that crying noise.. hopefully it will settle down today and that he was just making it sore. I am always amazed they don't scratch themselves as in hurting, more..
