Hi I have a approx one year old small pet type cock budgie..who has been fine then over the last weekend noticed he was sitting on perch in aviary with head under wing for long periods of time..but he has got worse all of a sudden just sits on perch regurgitating his food..I have bought him indoors and have put some millet and ordinary seed into his cage (and as I type this he is tucking in to the millet)..i have put some guardian angel in his water..but he just looks very poorly..is there anything else I can do for him?

I don;t have a solution, but I am sending you and the little one only the best thoughts and prayers. Hope the Guardian Angel does its magic. It seems to help a lot of birds.

Aw, poor chap:( Keep him warm by covering the cage on 3 sides leaving the front open. As hes eating millet spray you could soak a piece in a guardian angel solution before feeding it. If hes not drinking at least he'll get some moisture from the wet millet. I like to give sick birds one or 2 drops of G A direct to the beak every 4 -6 hours if I haven't seen them drink. What do his droppings look like?

Hi Nat
Thanks for the advice..his droppings seem normal..since returning from work i have been able to watch him closesly and he is eating but is regurtitating while he is eating..I guess some is getting inside cos he is pooing..I will do that with the millet spray but he is also eating his normal seed as well now shall i sprinkle some G A on his seed will this help?

I wonder as hes regurgitating but still has a hunger if he has canker? It blocks up the crop so they can't get food down adequately. A chill can do the same thing if there is mucus in the crop. Does his regurgitation look clean or mucousy? Yes you can sprinkle G A dry onto the seed, but I'm not sure if it will adhere to the seed or sink to the bottom, but it certainly won't hurt. If you can get him to an avian vet they will do a crop wash to check for canker or bacteria and prescribe the appropriate meds. A non avian vet on the whole prescribes antibiotics for everything, but of course thats only good if the bird actually has a bacterial infection where alot of the time it is something else.

I might be a good idea to treat all your birds with chevi col Sue and your aviary will need to be disinfected

So sorry to hear that Sue:( Good idea of Barries to treat the flock for canker. If you'd like I could pack up 7 days worth of Ronivet S (for canker) and post it to you tomorrow with the dosage.

Rest in Peace, sweet little one. Sue, he knew how much you loved him by the good care you gave him. Nature has her reasons for taking them so young.

Hi Sue, the only places you can get Ronivet from is Australia or the US. I bought from 'vetafarm' about 3 years ago. It was expensive postage but I got a load of other stuff from them as well. I bought from the US this year. I think the postage worked out more as I had to pay the tax charges at this end of the line which they don't remind you about when ordering! The chevi-col does the same as Ronivet and at least you can get it from the UK.
I'll never use the full tub of ronivet before the use by date so I'd rather see somebody use it instead of binning the last bit like I did with the last tub:) I'll pack it up tonight and post it as soon as you send me your address:)
