Yesterday my first budgie died. Her name was Belle and I had her for a year. We later found out she was actually a boy but she or he knew her name so we pretended she was a girl haha. Anyway my bird got out of her cage without me noticing and I was coming up the stairs with my two dogs to bath them. They both saw my bird fly to the floor and one got her. I was quick to react and opened my dogs mouth to get her out but it was too late. She was a mix of broken feathers and tiny drops of blood but she was still alive. My other dog, Buttons growled at the killer dog, Coco and he never growls which made her go out the room. Buttons then come over and put his nose against Belle's chest and then laid down. He knew it was the end. Well I am 15 years old and it was my first budgie so after seeing what Buttons did it snapped me into action and I ran to my parents. They both jumped up and we were moving towards the door to go to the vets but a tiny tweet stopped us. We all watched her in my hands as she gave her final tweet and flapped her wings before lying still forever. It was heartbreaking to watch. I am hoping she died painlessly but we think she died from shock or heart attack.
i am not really sure why I wrote this. Maybe to get support from people or maybe just to get my story out. I am not to sure to be perfectly honest. But what I do know is that Belle was beautiful, chatty little bird who had only recently just turned one. She will be missed dearly by all. I am still wondering whether this is my fault, whether it could of done something different to save her but it's done now. I can only hope I gave her a good life and she is happy where she is now. Her funeral will be held today. Thank you for reading.

Rest in Peace, sweet beautiful Belle. Keep her cute face and happy song close to your heart, and she will be with you forever. When the time feels right, I hope you will get another little bird to love and care for. Belle would like that. I am so sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear this. This must have been traumatizing to say the least. Often an accident like this makes us feel guilty but it's just an accident. I had a lucky incident with my cats when the birds were new and I could be telling the same story about my Charlie. I got lucky.
These are learning experiences and I guess learning always comes with growing pains, sorry if that sounds cliché. I guess experience is the best teacher.
Your love shines through in telling of this story.

Hello again. Thank you for your kind words it was appreciated. I made this account so that I could learn more about budgies because the time i spent with Belle although short made me love the little creatures. I am actually thinking about getting a new budgie or maybe two because I think Belle would want me to continue caring/loving birds. Although Belle will never be forgotten or replaced I feel like I can take good care of other birds because in a way owning her made me a better person. It sounds strange I know but if Belle could talk she would tell me to get another budgie. I changed my avatar to my beautiful Belle so you could see her (him) in all her beauty.

Belle indeed was beautiful.. I think a new budgie(s) sounds a good idea and you are in a good place here, to learn and share info on your budgie(s)

So sorry to read your story, emmydoos. Belle sounds like a beautiful creature. RIP little one. As has been said, accidents are just that: accidents, and cannot be predicted. Unfortunately for Belle this was a tragic accident, but I like your thinking in that another budgie is not a replacement for Belle; none will ever replace him/her in your heart, but Belle has introduced budgies into your life and given you an appreciation for these gorgeous little creatures. But I do suggest you give yourself time to grieve. The time will come when you will be able to remember Belle with smiles at all the funny times you shared.

Thank you all for the kind messages. I think I've been left kind of traumatised from the loss of Belle because I can't sleep at night and every time I close my eyes I relive what happened. Your messages have helped me a lot actually, they have made me realize and come to terms that it is apart of life and it was just her time to go.
