My little budgie Smokey, (who I've had for two weeks) has made lots of progress, since he stepped up on day one (I was very surprised!) there's been no stopping him! He now flies to my shoulder willingly and I'm trying to train him to do this on command I'm just wondering how I can train him in the best way, not letting his friendly nature making me want to rush things! How can I be sure not to rush him, or confuse him? I just want to build the strongest bond that I can with my friendly bird I was told by the pet shop that he wasn't hand tame, but he must have been! Either that or he is very friendly! Any opinions would be appreciated, thank you

Tiff, while he is prepared to learn, go for it. You will probably have days coming where you can't get him to do the things you want, or he won't do the things he has already learnt. This is where you just back off a bit, put in a bit of practice going through the basics and leave the training on a positive note. 10-15 minutes several times a day is good ...... if he is happy with longer times, fine, but accept that there may be days where he won't be. The best way to build up the trust really is just spending the time with him. You don't even have to be doing anything in the way of training, but maybe if you have time to sit and read a book, have him and some of his favourite toys on your lap, either let him do his own thing or engage him with the playmaking. This can be really good fun.

Do, please. I love hearing or reading about other's progress with their new budgies. They are all so very different. Some people have such struggles and others sail through, due to their bird's personality. My youngest is a little hen of 16 weeks ......... so quiet one on one, but with the others is a right little madam. She is pushing to take over from my hen in charge. Personalities ......... never let anyone say that budgies are boring!!!

It's so very true! Budgies make amazing pets and they such amazing and distinct personalities to match, all the budgies I've known over the years have all been so unique! I'm just happy things are going well with my little one

Jo Jo is 15 weeks and eats anything I put in front of him, he is trying to talk and is extremely tame, but he has days when you really dont mess with him! My daughter has just arrived and he has not seen her for 7 weeks and he has played with his toys on her lap for 10 mins and then groomed her. She was impressed.
He loves if I put his wobbly bird in his dish bath it twirls around and he has fun chasing it around. Still waiting for him to go into the bath fully but He is not impressed. I was worried the other day when I saw red on his feathers until I looked at his new forage box and rubbed my hand on it and the vegetable dye comes off.
Glad things are going well.
