This may sound like a daft question, but in my experience a daft question is one that is not asked, so here goes.
I bought a bottle of F10SC, and made a spray bottle up for general cleaning etc, but then I made a sealable bucket up with around 5 litres of disinfectant, and use this for washing feed bowls and perches. I wash them in warm water afterwards and thoroughly dry them before using them again. So, does anyone else have a bucket of solution made up, and how often would you suggest that it is changed for a fresh batch?
Regards

I use the ready made diluted which lasts ages. So I would imagine that's no different to what you've done so if sealed, it must be ok a long time? As the made up litres don't have anything about using it by a certain time

I keep a litre bottle in the fridge as it suggests to keep it in a cool place. A bit different for a five litre bucket though. Depending on how soiled it gets should give you an idea of when to change it. When I have a fair bit of cleaning to do I use a paint brush dipped in the solution, that way I don't feel to be contaminating the fresh stuff. I just let mine dry naturally that way there should be disinfectant coating on the items I have cleaned. Mind you I only have the one bud to think about and he is rather grown up now. There will be others with much more experience giving their ideas on that.

I too keep the diluted solution of F10SC in a liter bottle in the fridge, and it lasts for over a week. It's for spraying and letting the stuff dry naturally.
I know some breeder make bucket of solution and soak their feeders etc in it. It's just because of the quantity of the stuff they have.

Whoa, that's interesting!
What I was trying to ask BB in the above post was; do you use a litre a week, or do you just replace whatever you don't use regardless on a weekly basis?

ah..
I only have the one bud and do not use that much.. All his stuff gets sprayed each week, when I clean him out.. and I also wipe the table he now has his gym on, with it sprayed onto paper towels, rather than polish as that is so highly impregnated smell wise.. and even then, I probably only use the 1L every few months.. I think it is a litre anyway
if Bailey was out the cage more, then the whole cage would get washed/soaked in it etc.. so I suppose I use less, as I only wipe everything down, and it is only his toys that get properly washed in the stuff

I use washing up detergent and rinse in a vinegar solution, so can't answer your F10 question, sorry.

No worries Hezz I think I have my answers above. I've made a spray bottle up and a sealable bucket containing around 5L of mixture. It's funny isn't it, years ago when I was kid and we had caged birds, we didn't use special disinfectants, or things like Probiotics, or special powders. They had seed, grit, water and a cuttlebone. Nothing more nothing less, and they were cleaned out (fresh paper on the bottom and perches washed under the tap) once a week. I can understand that things have moved on since then, and perhaps it is our nature now to give the best possible care to our birds (and/or pets) which wasn't available then?

I am afraid I am a bit of the old school - if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If I did get some contagious disease through the flock I would definitely go out and invest in some more heavy-duty cleaning product, but I am happy to say that hasn't happened, touch wood.

Disinfectant is not really a must for pet owners, especially with one or two birds. Other means of cleanliness can be used as well. In case of more birds or breeding, one can end up in a situation where disinfection is essential. Any disinfectant would start to loose it's strength gradually once diluted. So small amount should be mixed. As for your question Budgies Retreat, I spray food bottles, toys perches and it's finishes. I don't have to discard the solution. But then again, I make it in small quantities.

I make mine up in a spray bottle as well, so none of it goes to waste. I also used to use a vinegar solution to clean until my bird became unwell and was picking up weird environment bugs, so I had to bring out the big gun disinfectants.
