Hi! I was just wondering, when is it okay to start breeding your budgies? Like, the age of the bird?
Buddy is about a year old, and our little girl Greta is about 7 months. The birds already really like each other, and I was thinking that later on I might breed them.
But that's my question- do budgies have to be over a certain age to breed? I would love for Buddy and Greta to have chicks, but I'm wondering about how old the birds have to be in order to breed them, if there is one at all.
Thanks for reading!

I'm only a beginner myself, but other more experienced owners/breeders recommend both birds be a year old. I'm sure others will come and say what they think also.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking.
I'll wait for Greta to age, then get the birds a nest-box and do what I can to get them to breed.

At least a year old for Greta if you breed hens too young they can become egg bound.

It depends on the budgie. The youngest hen I've breed is 6months both did well. The youngest cock is 7months he produce a lot of chicks and was a great dad xxx
Usually hens need to be at least 9months and same for cock, but as I've said could be younger xx

It is for breeders who know their birds and can breed them at early age. They have a lot of stimulation too from other breeding birds. Breeders also have different means to save chicks if parents are not experienced enough, like fostering eggs and chicks and so on.
The budgies should be at least an year old before they are bred.
