What were you trying to do in that video, BB? Was it just a feel-good moment, or is this something the parents would be doing?? She loves cheek rubbing. She is so far ahead of her age and preens her feathers even when there are hardly any. So this feather cleaning, preening and cheek rubbing becomes a bonding thing. They don't get just food from the mums in the nest box

I thought that too Hezz - maybe he is trying to mimic the hen preening her so that the bond is there as well as the grooming side of things? I always knew you were smart

She is so sleepy that she is almost falling flat, but she wants the feathers to look perfect. Typical female stuff

Have to say, I just love this photo. Regarding the video: Isn't she amazing trying to preen herself already! One little prima donna there for sure. Lovely to see her fluffy little downy feathers and holding her head up ..... to a certain extent.

You can really see how feathers evolved from reptilian scales in these baby birds when they are all just spiky keratin sheaths.

She is growing at a tremendous rate now. She no longer fits in the palm of your hand. I also love the way she is preening herself. The squeaks are getting louder too if that was her.
