I've got two pairs in my flight, and was told to have 3 boxes in the flight, but as I'm not colony breeding I've just got two breeding cages. If that helps?

i colony bred last year and had no problems. this year however i have more birds. just looking for some opinions from other people who colony breed. unfortunately i dont really have the space to cage breed with my current set up. it is something im hopefully going to change this year.

That's the thing with colony breeding everything can be fine for a while then BANG disaster.
You want find many people that do it because of the risk to their birds and chicks.
It will be great when your able to change the set up.

I did it last year and would never do it again my shed is very small and i only have room for one breeding cage and a nursery cage because the indoor flight takes up half the shed , The first lot of chicks I had no,probs with as only one hen laid then her chicks grew up a bit and she laid a second clutch and the hen from her first clutch kept going in the nest box and she broke all the eggs exept for 2 ,the other hens who had laid eggs she would go in their boxes and throw their eggs out or break them open . I bred 2 lots on a breeding cage and had no probs and found it much better than colony. With colony I was worried al the time especially when the chicks started wanting to come outbof the nest box I was worried of them falling to the floor so built a platform around the nest box which worked well in stoppjng them going straight to the shed floor.
