My hen is laying eggs and as laid 2 sofar. There is a concave in the box and woodshavings but she kicks the shavings out the whole time. No matter how much i try she kicks it out. She has the eggs in the concave but just dont want woodshavings there. Iv tried with sawdust, woodshavings and coconut fibers as thats what the man in the petshop said was the 3 they use.

Just keep adding a little daily, the same amount she removes. Once eggs hatch and she is busy with chicks, she won't bother about it. And that is when you need wood shavings the most.

That's what peregrine falcons do with their nest, they make a scrape and lay their eggs in the concave.

What scares me is if i put more in then she will kick the eggs out or damage them.

I put wood shavings in before she goes into the nest box. Then when she goes in she clears out all the shavings. I leave her to lay her eggs without any shavings and to sit on her eggs. After that I don't know as none of them have ever hatched, but when she does have fertile eggs and the first one hatches I will put in more shavings. As BB said, she will be too busy with the chicks to bother with the shavings.

What scares me is if i put more in then she will kick the eggs out or damage them. Put the same amount which she removes so she won't notice. If there is a concave and eggs are not rolling in the nest box, you can wait until the eggs hatch.
