which type of grass exactly? I want to plant them my self. Am trying their own seeds and lentil. Put them in a small container to become grass. Are these safe? and what other things to try? (for example wheat? sunflower? )

They like seeding grasses. The type you see growing wild or in unmown gardens, mostly in summer. They eat the seeds, just like the dry seeds you normally feed them, except they are fresh. They've got a lot more nutrients in the seeds that way. It's the fresh seeds, not the grass, that they like. They might chew a little of the actual grass, but not much. (Don't collect near busy highways where they get covered in vehicle fumes or where dogs pee and poop) You can also grow seeds from your normal dry seed mixes. Throw a light scattering of seeds in a pot of soil or the garden, keep it consistently moist and in a warm sunny spot. Eventually they should grow into grass with seed heads at the top. Have a read of this. www.birds-online.de/nahrung/wildgraeser/wildgraeser_en.htm
