They do that to show they want to come out, want attention or being a baby. Mine still does that now and bangs his cage door. One of the more experienced people will be on later and tell you more. Don't worry, he is exercising his wings to make them stronger, he needs time to settle in
Hope this helps until someone more experienced comes on

The main thing is don't worry and don't let your budgie see you worried. It sounds like he/she is experimenting as Suesbird says. Welcome to the forum.

I am trying to type this as Jo slides down the screen. He will trust you and then you will be saying " please give me 5 mins of peace and leave me alone"
There is so much brilliant advice on here and you will keep saying I must have that, I must make that or buy that. Very pampered buds on this forum.
He is lovely, is he hand tame already?

Try some millet between your fingers or baby sweetcorn, they like that. look at some of the boards for feeding they are really helpful.

The best place to start to learn is by reading the stickies at the top of each section. These are chock full of things you need to know to look after your little bird the best. It sounds to me like your budgie has not had a lot of human contact which is going to make your job that little bit harder and take that little bit longer. And anything you achieve in the first week, take with a grain of salt because more than likely he is too scared stiff to be actively learning or stating to trust. Take it slowly slowly with your hand in the cage, talking softly all the while and slowly follow him with your hand if he moves away. Millet is a good training tool as most budgies can't resist millet so go to the cage bearing gifts in the form of a piece of millet, but if he does start to eat it, make sure he doesn't fill up totally just on the millet. Once he stops moving away from your hand you can try getting him to step up onto your finger by holding your index finger out across his lower chest, give him a gentle push and say the words, step up. Most budgies will learn this one very quickly. Start with these and see how quickly he responds and then we can take it from there. Also to make it easier to find this thread, I am moving it to the taming section.
