Hi everyone,
I'm new to this forum and apologise if this has been mentioned elsewhere.
I have a male pied colour Budgie which is going to be one years old on Monday, I've had him since he was six weeks old.
He loves coming out of his cage, he flies to me when I say "Come On".
He steps up on anybodies finger not just mine. He has learned some words such as "Come On".
The problem I'm facing is that he does not allow me or anyone to touch his head or his back. I have tried moving my finger slowly to the top of his head he does not like it and steps up on the finger rather than allowing me to touch his head.
I was just wondering if anyone has any advice and have been in similar situations?
Thanks in advance

Budgies in general don't like to be petted. You should not touch a birds back at all as they see it as a sexual advance and can become attached to one person and aggressive to everyone else. Welcome to the forum.

Jo never lets me touch his head or beak. It is only this week he has starting to want to go to my lips, blame this on my hubby who has a moustache and lets Jo clean it. I just don't bother trying to pet him as he does not like it. I am also not allowed to mess with his cage if he is in it!

Welcome to the forum. I have seen other Budgie owners that touch the top of the Budgies head and the Budgie enjoys it almost like as if it was a treat.

He gorgeous! My budgie at times will ADORE a head scratch, especially if he's got lots of pinnies to be massaged off. However it's very much on his terms, he'll go many weeks not wanting one: he used to let me know by savaging me, we've now reached an agreement where he says no thanks in a less violent manner....

Lovely lovely Budgie, whats his name? His name's Dexter. Thanks everyone it makes sense, I assumed it was something that the Budgie would not mind, forgetting the fact they're all different

Hello Dexter is a lovely looking budgie. As the others have said some birds love it, some don't I have a few budgies and one, Pippin, loves a head scratch and he tilts his head to the side letting us know he also wants his neck done too! I have 2 others who allow you to stroke the whole length of their back but the head is a no no! My Paddy doesn't allow either, he doesn't like stroked / scratched at all, but will happily sit on your head, shoulder or finger. They are all so individual with feisty personalities! How old is Dexter?

As well as what everyone else has said, even budgies who let you scratch their heads or cheek feathers don't like you touching their backs. This is where their wings are and they are very protective of their wings.
