We've just finished watching it and found it very interesting think the chickens behaviour could be applied to budgies too

We had a few chooks when I was little. "Henrietta" used to lay my breakfast. I feel guilty even eating eggs! I never used to mind or even think about it but having a vegan as a husband has really affected me and now I rarely touch meat at all! If I eat eggs he sits staring at me, then says 'that could have been a beautiful bird, a yellow fluffy chick, and your eating it' honestly! He puts me right off!

Talk about a guilt trip over breakfast.

Eggs are not fertilized so will never become a chick. I have 3 hens but no cock so their eggs will always be infertile. When you have a period each month does your husband tell you that could have been a baby? It's the same, your egg is not fertilised so it is rejected by the body. A chickens egg is laid if fertilized or not.

Thats what I keep saying starlingqueen! My OH says it is cannibalistic for budgies to eat egg but I always tell him the same thing, they are not fertilised so how can it be?! Silly boy

Silly boy Plus technically it's only cannibalism if it's the same species My hen ate all her infertile eggs one at a time as the hatch date came and went. It's survival, they get the energy and nutrition back that they put in to laying them.

Very true, starlingqueen Female birds put a lot of resources into producing eggs, so they might as well reclaim what they're not getting any other benefit from.
