Do you avoid unringed budgies and if so what are your reasons for this?

Only because they could be old and passed their sell by date, the ones you have bought are young

I always avoid non ringed birds because of age issue, and only go for them if they are visually young.

I don't actively avoid them but I do appreciate it if they have a ring on. A ring doesn't necessarily prove anything though because a breeder could have put any old ring on the bird. I saw some budgies the other week with two rings on their legs which was odd.
Quite a few of my budgies don't have leg rings but it doesn't bother me as I got them from breeders or when they were still barheads.

You're one of the good ones, Brian. I bet there a number out there who pull the wool over a new-comers eyes, and sell off old stock!

I've bought both ringed and non-ringed budgies. Funnily enough all the ringed birds I've had all had health problems and died prematurely. However, my non-ringed birds are going strong. I have a sneaky suspicion that some exhibition budgie breeders are selling on their poor/unhealthy stock to us unsuspecting pet owners. I'm not saying that I'd never buy a ringed bird again but now I'm a little older and wiser when it comes to budgies I will take more time to fully and carefully inspesct a bird before purchasing.

This is one reason not to buy from a pet shop, dealers buy large quantities from breeders and sell them on to pet shops, an easy way out on how to get shot of the weak and infirm , just ring up the dealer , as he knows nothing about birds

yeah i have found the same JoC. I got given a budgie when i first started with the aviary, a breeder said he had stopped breeding so he was going to ring its neck so i took it and he has been the best bird out of all of them. He is unringed also. He has been the best father too really looks after his chicks and even looks after ones that arnt his.
Can you show unringed birds at all barrie?
