Hi there, Mischief is about six years old now and I've noticed changes in her behaviour and poop! I've tried some treatment mentioned on both the old site and here but I think it's an age related thing. I have been giving more attention to cleaning as well as suppliments because of moulting too. Anyway, I would like to know what you all think please. Sid is a bit of a pest and as we know budgies put on a good act even when dying! So as they have two cages adjoining that they share, should I separate them to give Mischief some time on her own, or just leave them and hope Sid doesn't fight with her as she gets more poorly? Hard to know what to do for the best because I have a feeling that Mischief is not going to last for a lot longer, although I would be happy if proved wrong! Will she prefer to be in her own cage, alone ..... oh dear

All my best thoughts and prayers are with you and Mischief. Hope she has lots more time with you. Just continue to give her all your good care and love.

Are you sure it's her age that is causing her to be unwell? Six is not really very old for a budgie.... I think she would probably prefer to stay with Sid than be separated... unless she begins to look stressed by him I'd keep them together.

I agree with Tacey
6 isn't that old. I have two that are five and they are the most lively of the bunch!

I agree with the others, Mischief is not an elderly budgie! :-) It may be worth taking her to a vet sometime soon. Maybe if you posted more information on her behaviour and the appearance of her droppings that concerns you one of the experts on here could give you advice on how to help her. I hope she does get better soon!

Ah thank you all kindly I hope I haven't done anything wrong! Although can't think what. They've had some millet as an 'energy booster' with them moulting pretty heavily at present. Apart from that they've had broccoli and I put some cod liver oil in their water a while back but they wouldn't drink it! Mischief's poop has turned from the 'normal' ring of dark with white in the centre, to greyish white, formed but longish not round shaped! Any suggestions gratefully welcomed, Barrie what antibiotic's do you recommend because I'm not sure what the problem is? Should I try some bi-carb in the water? thanks

Millie, I am going to go against the grain here, and say separate her. You may be aware I have a poorly 6 year old as well, and was only this morning talking to the vet. She has recommended keeping Blue separate for the time being, as I too, or rather, Bluey, has a pest in the big cage, so rather than stress him out by being hassled all the time, she suggests keeping him in his little cage for the time being, unless he starts stressing to go back in! Hope this helps. And I really hope you can rally Mischief around back to good health. Will be thinking of you.

Thanks Hezz it's difficult isn't it? I had a thought while lying in bed last night (hence my early post this morning!) I wonder if she's having too much cuttlebone? Is that possible? She certainly loves gnawing on it? *yawn* right, breakfast calls and off to see if they're awake!

Barrie you are too kind (I did check out your website for advice too)! I'm afraid I'm not at home today or tomorrow, out both afternoons but I will keep a close eye out for any changes for the better or worse! I'll let you know how it goes, thank you all for your support and concern. I'm now wondering if she's not ill as such but with the moulting, which was very heavy this time, she just got so stressed and Sid sometimes won't leave her alone! Mind she can give it as well! You know what......I'm reassured just by your responses, so here's hoping. Barrie if she seems worse I'll be in touch and again, thank you so much. If you're ever in your old home town, feel free to call and if I'm at home you can meet my budgies (oh and my husband ) God bless you.
