I knew a chap who smuggled an African Grey parrot into England years ago, long before you could buy them! There are some very naughty people (and birds ) No, that one is a ringneck parrot, not this one.

The parakeet's in London parks are thriving.....there's hundreds of them and they are soooo loud! Glad I only visit

Everything I looked at on the internet, while saying that there are a few different varieties, only actually named the Indian Ringneck. So whether there are others or they are different mutations of the ringneck, I do wonder.

Parakeet is simply a name for small/medium parrots with a long tail, hence a budgie is a parakeet, but a parakeet isn't necessarily a budgie. But it seems the name parakeet has replaced the name budgerigar, as BB has pointed out, in Northern America. Oddly enough, or not, the word parakeet I have never heard used in Australia.
