It was the OH's birthday today and we went out for a nice pub lunch and to visit some animal places in Kent. On the way to a place to look around a garden centre and get some feathered trinkets (I managed to refrain from buying I might add) I managed to find a new friend named Ruby: Isn't she beautiful! (And the bird ha ha)! (Joke) No seriously, for those of you who don't know this parrot is a captive bread "Electus" (I'd never heard of them before until today) and the females are red and the males are green. She took to me straight away for some reason, perhaps it was because my hair was a mess according to her, and needed a damn good preen I need to go back there again in a couple of weeks to get some stuff and I may have to pay her a visit

She wasn't looking for flaky white bits then? Can't say I've heard of them before, but if the are that friendly they must make a good pet.

Whereabouts in Kent was that? I think I may have an idea but could be wrong. Eclectus are lovely birds, their colours are stunning and easy to tell the sex. They have very silky feathers but are, unfortunately, prone to plucking and screaming. They can be very loud indeed.

Cockatiels aren't screamers. And I have a pearly conure that doesn't scream, but that is the exception in conures, most do make a heck of a racket. Parrotlets are quiet as are Senegals.

Eclectus parrots are lovely; they seem to have a lovely nature as well. You were a lucky girl Sam. Ruby is beautiful. I am wondering which area/type she is, and whether she is a young bird. It may be just the photo but it looks like she hasn't fully coloured up yet. I met a hen recently as well - her name was Cosmo. She was happy for me to give her a scratch.

You are absolutely right Hezz! Well spotted about her colouration/age - she was born October 2013! So she was a wee curious young thing. I was in love with her and very sorely tempted because of how endearing she was towards me, but I don't think my buds would like that too much! (or the OH come to think of it) Besides, I don't know if I could give the amount of quality time she deserves to look after her and to me that is not fair on her one bit

I wouldn't make a homing pigeon starlingqueen as my geography and navigation are terrifying! We went all over yesterday and as I recall this place was in East Sussex (I think)!
