again. One of my hens in the aviary, there are only 2 at the moment as one is in a breeding cage, seems to be nesting. I have a large ornamental tea cup hanging from the top that I put seed or veg in and she has been sitting in there all day. I know she's ok as I have seen her pop out now and then. Now the problem is the other hen is acting odd. She is more active than I've ever seen her, bashing a toy and flicking her wings, a lot. Then earlier when Citrine popped off her nest, Opal hopped on the side of the cup and stood looking in with Citrine standing opposite. What should I do? I am thinking I will wait to see if the eggs are fertile then remove Opal so Citrine and her babies are safe. But will chasing Opal to catch her upset Citrine. Also I don't know how old Citrine is, could that be a problem if she is old?

You say "seems to be nesting", is this Citrine? But next "see if the eggs are fertile". Are there eggs? If she has taken a liking to the teacup and you are afraid she is making this into a nest, surely taking it out would be the easiest solution? But who has the eggs, or are there any eggs?? Your post has confused me.

Yes it's Citrine Hezz. We have one egg so far. I have just spoken to the previous owner who says she is around 4 years old.

So really she is too old for breeding safely. I would be removing the cup and the egg, mixing things about so she doesn't get a chance to feel settled again. From my huge experience of zero breeding ..... I would be trying to keep her egg-less.
