If he has strained it, it is going to take some time to heal ....... best try to keep him as quiet as possible for the short term so the foot gets a chance. Think of spraining your own foot or ankle; it doesn't get better in a day or two and can take quite some time if you hurt it badly.

I've been reading about the kidney tumours they can get and how 90% of budgies get this and how it affects there walking and lameness to there left leg. Just can help but thinking Bruce has this problem

He is only around 5 months old. I very much doubt this would be his problem at such an early age. It is much more likely he was behaving like a typical young budgie doing silly kamikaze acts and hurt his foot, or leg, somehow.

Continue to worry about him and be vigilant, but don't stress over every little thing. Firstly, there are things you can't change anyway, and secondly you will not stop long enough to enjoy his company.

I had to give my little guy .1ml of an anti fungal med twice a day for a month. I would fill the syringe and hand it to my wife, then I would chase buddy around the cage until I could safely grab him. While trying to grab him my wife would block he section of the doorway where my arm didn’t; this kept buddy from escaping. Then once you have hime in your grasp hold hand firm but notmtight aroung the little guy. My first experience was for him to flip his head around to expel the meds. So I would gently hold him with his back to my palm gently cradling his beak and head between my thumb and forefinger. I would talk gently and calmly and then squirt the med a little at a time into his beak. Because I held him tilted back and kept his head from twitching the meds went down well. Then I would praise him and put him back in his cage. Twice a day for a month was a test but he has recovered wonderfully.
On a related note we had a perch in his cage that he would get sexual active with, he would shake all over wildly several times a day. Noticed the other day that he was favoring his one leg, so I took that perch out and he has quickly recovered.
Hope you little ,friend improves.

Old thread; please take note of the date before responding to random threads. Also holding the bird on its back and giving meds you run the risk of aspirating the meds into the bird’s lungs.
