Hi, I have two budgies Gus and Ozzi. Gus is starting to have a biting problem. Any time I pick him up he bites me. It is extremely aggravating and it actually hurts pretty bad. If anyone can give me any suggestions and advice to stop this habit, I would greatly appreciate it. Have an amazing day, Emaline Taylor

Three days back, my finger was bleeding from three places. It due to biting of a bird which I completely hand-reared and is extremely tame.
Not every bird is same. Some don't like to be held in hand. Some don't like to be touched on the back, head or beak. Some get aggressive when they see us giving attention to another bird. And so on.
Find out what is your issue there.

Mine has issues when he thinks he should have been out sooner than he was, so when he comes out we get nipped sharply on the neck. He does not like been touched but this week I managed to stroke his beak 3 times!

They will often go through this stage in their first twelve months ........ among other things, they are pushing their boundaries to find out if you will bend or break, much like teenagers will with their parents. And like all teenagers there is no set rules for how they will behave; some will sail through with barely a hiccup, and others will have their parents calling the police! YOu need to decide whether you are going to tolerate or stop the behaviour. Also, are you picking him up, or are you asking him to step up?

If I have to get him out of the cage (like to put him in the carrier) and he wont step up I will pick him up, but even though I hand tamed him and taught him the first day I got him he hates it and wont ever do it.

The only time I have ever picked Billie up was when I let her out after I first got her and she wouldn't go back to her cage. She didn't like it one bit and I definitely got the sharp end of her beak. Now she will step up there is no need to physically pick her up although I am in no doubt that if I tried she would nip me. Is it necessary to pick her up to transfer cages? I put the two cages next to each other (entrance to entrance) and encouraged Billie to move into the other one.
I'm far from being an expert as Alfie has never got hand taming, only Billie, but maybe you need to go back to basics to ensure your bird steps up each time you ask rather than whenever he wants? I've learnt it is possible and I'm going to go back to the very beginning with Alfie and take it slow to see what happens.
