Raspy has been trying for the last half an hour to lay an egg. Is this normal? (Atilla seemed to pop them out with ease).Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

Would you be able to massage the area lightly with some vaseline?
I read on the net that it might help?
Hope she's okay x

Thanks Marianne. Just spoke to the vet. He said to give her another hour & half (that sounds a long time) & to ring him back then. She's already in the travel cage so if need be I can run her up to him. She's stopped pushing now & is resting... Sooooooo worrying...

Keep her extra warm as well. Warmth might help her pass the egg. Do you think she';s eggbound? Can you see the egg sort of stuck?

I also read that warmth might help too.
We're all thinking of you here.

It wouldn't hurt to give her something with calcium in it as well. Whatever you've got there.

I also read that a warm bath and steam can help. Whatever you do, don't try to massage the egg. It might break.

I am worried the egg is already cracked or broken. I am assuming I will be taking her to the vet at midday... Have already picked up the car in readiness...

Just got back from the vet. He said she looked in good conditions & was not showing any signs of distress. The egg is quite high up. She is not eggbound. He was going to give her a hormone injection but didn't think she needed it. Her bottom area is inflamed. It's possible the egg will be absorbed by her body. He thinks she will either lay the egg. or it will be absorbed, within a day. I am to contact him if she looks distressed at all.
I will keep her separated for now. She does seem fine in herself & was preening in the car, on the way back from the vet.
Phew! For now....
