just an update on the chick and here's what i'm up against i counted 15 the other night and saw 2 rats eating a mouse grim i know. i've had to rip out all my birdrrom and am only left with the breeding cages, all the rodents have come of the field next door and i'm infested. have to wash and disenfect all the water and food dishes every day because i dont know wether a rodent has been drinking or peeing in them, i've just about had enough thinking of taking all my birds and equipment out the shed douseing it in petrol and lighting it up and starting from scratch again. kyle kyle

I can sympathise here, we have just ripped out everything in our birdroom, all insulation etc as the mice had actually chewed through from the outside! What we're planning on doing now is actually 1/4inch meshing the shed then putting panelled insulation and filling the inside with that foam stuff that hardens when it dries. Re-doing the aviary as well so it is fully 1/4 by 1/4 inch and concrete floor.
To stop rats however you will need a layer of broken glass under the concrete to stop them chewing their way through it so I've been told.
Nasty buggers and a pain to get rid of once you get em!

Well Kyle i am sorry to read this but the only way is to remove your shed and make it mouse proof, winters on its way and the seed will attract them as they look for a warm place to live.
Never feed birds outside
A concrete base is a starter and the shed walls must cover the shed floor all the way down to the concrete.

sorry to says that maybe a good idea to burn it down and start again!! the rats and mice will kill your budgies sooner or later! hi there, with that sort of infestation ,got to agree with gaile, rip it down and start again, concrete base ,get some glass and mesh in to it any rubbish will do,get a layer of 9"blocks around the foot print of the shed off the base, and then build your timber shed off this or if funds allow build a concrete block shed, again mesh the interior walls of shed before lining any gaps fill with mesh and expansion foam filler, but most importantly, find ythe hides of where the rats and mice are coming from and get some good poison down there to eradicate them at source, not an easy job and may take a while
