Hi
i have 15 budgies in my aviary, 4 of these are siblings. We saw two of the siblings at 'it' today - we have only had budgies for about a year and this is the first we have seen of any of them mating. The siblings are 7 months old, I didn't think they would be sexually mature nor did I think they would mate with a sibling?
Can an anyone give me any information - I am still pretty new to all this!
Thanks

As long as you don't provide nest boxes there should be no problem. Budgies don't care or know who they are mating with, if they produce eggs they should be removed. Some breeders who breed for show do interbreed but this can throw up deformities.

Will the eggs not be babies though? Can't face throwing eggs containing babies in the bin?

If there are no nest boxes there should be no eggs but if they do find somewhere to lay the eggs will only produce babies if you let her sit on them. When you eat eggs there are no babies inside just yolk and white, that is what will be in the eggs from the buds if you take them straight away.

I did know that but shortened my answer, should probably have said that .

once the eggs are laid you will not know if they are fertile or not!!! I have a pair that are half brother and sister, I wasn't happy but the chicks they produce were fine!
