My budgie laid 5 eggs (and she was "sitting" and warming them from egg #1), so I expect to see new baby budgie hatching every 2nd day starting from 12th October. Guys, I really need your help. How can I help them and what should I do? Obviously I will always supply them with seeds and I often give them little pieces of apple & plum (which they LOVE) Beside that, how can I help my budgie couple to take care of their babies? I would really appreciate any help and thank you all in advance.

Egg food should be available to them. You can buy this or hard boil an egg and chop it up small with the shell. They need the shell for the calcium. This should be provided before the eggs are laid as the hen needs calcium to replace what she used to make the eggs. If she doesn't replace it her body starts to take calcium from her bones. Also a supply of cuttle bone and a mineral block are essential at all times as is vitamin D3 which can either come from the sun, a special bulb or a supplement like "feather up". You can also give millet sprays.

They also need a very varied selection of fruits and veg, green stuff. The dried egg food can be mixed with the very very finely chopped fruit and veg or ideally all blitzed in a food processor. This should be offered daily but not left in the cage for more than a few hours at a time as it will spoil. I would offer some in the morning and change it for fresh in the late afternoon, take away at night and replace it with just the dried food until the morning as they will continue to feed the baby's at night, keep a night light on to help them with this. Really you should have had the adults on this diet for a while before breeding to boost them up. Good luck, we would love to see the baby's when they hatch .
